A current Oscar nominee for his work in the war drama The Hurt Locker, actor Jeremy Renner is now in negotiations to join director Peter Berg taking the lead role in "Battleship", says The NY Times. Battleship is a live-action pic adaptation of Hasbro's naval combat board game.
It is said to be "a contemporary story of an international five-ship fleet engaged in a very dynamic, violent and intense battle" against water-based aliens.
The film is due by May 25, 2012 in the US
Renner has also had meetings with filmmakers to star in James McTeigue's take on author Edgar Allan Poe's classic tale The Raven.
