Upper Classman

James McAvoy has been cast in Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class, says the Heat Vision Blog.

McAvoy plays the younger version of Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart in the X-Men film series)

The comic book prequel explores Xavier and Magneto in their early years as friends working together "to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known" before the rift that led to the conflict between Magneto's Brotherhood and Xavier's X-Men.

Jane Goldman has been hired to rework the screenplay.

Bryan Singer Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg, will produce the pic.

Ironically McAvoy had been a top choice among fans to play the young Magneto in -Men Origins: Magneto which is still in the pipeline

Filming will start in London this summer for a release date set for June 3, 2011.
