Earlier this week The Sun.reported that British actor Martin Freeman had formally been offered the lead role in The Hobbit: Part 1 and Part 2, but had to turn it down over his commitment to shooting a second season of the BBC 's Sherlock in which he plays Dr. Watson. Entertainment Weekly says that both New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer have come up with a plan for Freeman to allow him to do both projects.
Thus negotiations.are seemingly underway
Freeman would make a great choice.
Meantime Spyglass Entertainment suits have signed a letter of intent to take over management of the financially troubled MGM which will enter into pre-packaged bankruptcy.
allowing the troubled studio re-emerge without its debt obligations, minus its marketing and distribution channels so that "The Hobbit" films can go forward with Warner Bros. distributing the two films worldwide.
