Originally due to kick off filming around Broken Hill in the Australian state of New South Wales early next year, things have been shut down and filming is not expected to kick off until February 2012 reports The Australian.
There's no word yet if this will affect casting on the two part-film, the first of which which will follow a convoy of women known as the 'Fives Wives' who require protection during a road trip, protection in the form of Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy).
Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Riley Keough,and Adelaide Clemens were all set to co-star. Given the length of the delay the actors may have time to squeeze some other work in before Max ramps up again
No reason is given for the delay, but the strong local dollar is likely to have had a major impact on the decision.
The news comes as the Australian film industry has itself hit tough times in recent weeks as studios in Melbourne, Sydney and the Gold Coast sit empty while many local film industry professionals are out of work as international productions look for cheaper and places closer to home base to shoot.
The embarrassment and very public war of words over the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance labor dispute over The Hobbit: Part 1 and The Hobbit: Part 2 is not helping matters either
