Fire Bug

Plans are underway for a new film adaptation of the Stephen King novel Firestarter reports Variety

The book centers on a young girl cursed with the gift of pyrokinesis - the ability to set things on fire using only her mind.

Mark L. Smith ("Vacancy") will write the new adapted script that will be "loosely based" on the book, and will reinvent the main character to have "more edge".

Drew Barrymore stared as the girl in a previous film adaptation in 1984 A made for cable sequel  Firestarter 2: Rekindled aired on Syfy back in 2002.

The studio wants to make this the first of a potential franchise and production hopes to kick off sometime next year.

I usually don't like remakes but I have always felt let down by the film in '84 And anything's gotta be better than the sequel Yuck!
