Aside from The Globe Noms It's a slow news day for the film industry...


-Katee Sackhoff will star in the thriller Evil Geniuses says Heat Vision What makes this news a bit more noteworthy is the fact that it was written by someone who has ALS and can only communicate through the use of a computer. Proving once again that ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE folks

-Jessica Chastain ("The Tree of Life," "The Help") will will join Shia Labeouf and Tom Hardy on  John HIllcoat's Prohibition-era drama "The Wettest County" says The Hollywood Reporter. Nick Cave scripted this adaptation of Matt Bondurant historical novel The Wettest County in the World the story is based on the author's grandfather and two grand-uncles - three infamous brothers who made up a fierce criminal gang at the center of the American South's moonshine trade.Hardy and LaBeouf play two of the brothers. Chastain will play Hardy’s love interest, a big city woman now living in a small town who at one time was mixed up with gangsters. A February 2011 date is being eyed to start production

The Fetching French

-French actress Virginie Ledoyen (pictured) will star in the indie drama "The Last Beat" reports Variety. The film will see a world-weary self-exiled rock star (Shawn Andrews) searching in the early 1970s for a more artistic existence as a poet and writer in Paris, with the hope of erasing his tarnished former stardom. Ledoyen plays a French countess involved in a turbulent love triangle. Robert Saitzyk ("Godspeed") is directing from his own script. Shooting kicks off late spring on location in Paris

-Colin Firth is in talks to star in the Joel Coen and Ethan Coen-written remake of 1966 British caper comedy "Gambit" reports Deadline. Michael Caine  and MacLaine starred in the original about a cat burglar who tries to rob a billionaire of a priceless statue. He enlists the help of a waitress who is a dead ringer for the victim's late wife, but the job's execution is complicated by his relationship with his accomplice.Doug Liman had been inked to helm the new version, Michael Hoffman ("The Last Station") is set to direct.. Mike Lobell will produce. Production to kick off in London and Texas before the start of summer.

-Precious director Lee Daniels has signed on to direct a film adaptation of the award winning Broadway play "Anna in the Tropics" for Mankind Entertainment says The Hollywood Reporter.

-"Corpse Bride" co-director Mike Johnson will helm the CG/stop-motion action-adventure feature "Oz Wars"  says Variety.

-"Brokeback Mountain" writers Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana are teaming up again on two major more Western flicks according to Deadline.

-Nicolas Cage will star in the action adventure "Medallion" says Heat Vision Blog. The story follows a father who has a few hours to locate his daughter who has been kidnapped and locked in the trunk of an unidentified New York City cab.David Guggenheim ("Safe House") penned the script, Simon West ("Con Air") will direct and McG, James A. Holt, Jesse Kennedy and Matthew Joynes will produce

-Nick Cassavetes ("The Notebook," "My Sister's Keeper") is in talks to direct a biopic about John A. Gotti Jr. and his mobster Dad  says Variety The older Gotti spent the last decade of his life in prison before dying of cancer in 2002.
