Benicio Del Toro will play a deadly drug cartel enforcer in Oliver Stone's "Savages" reports Deadline.
Based on author Don Winslow's book the story follows a pair of Laguna Beach friends who share both a thriving marijuana business and a girlfriend. When a Mexican drug cartel kidnaps the girlfriend, they agree to pay the ransom but at the same time plan a way to both get her back and get revenge.
Olivia Wilde is circling the pic for a possible role while Salma Hayek is in discussions to play the head of the cartel. Taylor Kitsch ("X-Men Origins: Wolverine," "Battleship") is linked as one of the leads as is Aaron Johnson
Shane Salerno and Don Winslow wrote the script.
Shooting kicks off in June.
