Stone Deaf

The remake of 80's romantic adventure comedy "Romancing the Stone" is alive and kicking according to a source over at Moviehole.

Katherine Heigl, Gerard Butler and Taylor Kitsch have been mentioned as possible casting choices for the pic

Dan McDermott has been set to pen the script for ages

Robert Luketic was briefly attached to direct the update, getting his Killers (a horrible movie BTW) star Heigl interested in reuniting for the film

The original diected by Robert Zemeckis followed lovelorn romance novelist Joan Wilder (Kathleen Turner) who heads to Colombia to rescue her kidnapped sister. Becoming lost in the jungle, she's saved by soldier of fortune Jack Colton (Michael Douglas) and the pair set out to reach Cartagena while avoiding the private army of the country's murderous secret police chief. Mudslides, treacherous ravines, crashed planes, drug lords, alligators, the kidnapper's inept brother (Danny DeVito), and a giant emerald are all thrown into the mix.

At first glance the film was seen as a Raiders of the Lost Ark clone, but became a smash hit (spawning an inferior sequel The Jewel of the Nile) thanks solid comedic moments, location shooting, and the excellent chemistry and performances that launched Turner's career and put Douglas into romantic lead territory.

Heigl is still under consideration for the Wilder role, while both Kitsch and Butler are on an "early wish list" for the Colton role. The studio and producer Emma Watts are also reportedly "on the hunt for a director with a fresh, exciting take"

Heigl worked with Butler on Luketic's The Ugly Truth with dubious results at best.

Heigl and Butler again?  Either male from the wish list could do the Colton role I suppose if a remake has to be made at all Just not sure we need Heigl in there
