Speaking to Total Film Magazine (via CBM) about the upcomming reboot Dredd star Karl Urban promises that unlike the 1995 film starring Sylvester Stallone, his face will remain hidden as the iconic visor and helmet of the law enforcement officer will not be removed at anytime in the film.
"If anyone if familiar with Dredd, over the years there are many times when he removes his helmet but you never fully see his face. This was a construct by the creators because he represents a faceless system of justice and law."
He also went on to say how he'd react as a fan if the helmet were removed in the pic:
"I say this hypothetically. If I went to a movie called Judge Dredd and the lead actor at one point took of his helmet so we could see his full face I would just puke in my popcorn because that's not Dredd. He is mysterious and enigmatic. We're doing it right, it's gonna be harder, grittier and above all faithful to the comic. It's gonna kick ass."
Dredd (Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot ...if necessary...
Lena Headey and Olivia Thirlby co-star.
Pete Travis called action from a script by Alex Garland which is also said to stay true to the darker tone of the source material.
I'm there baby! With films altering the source material in comic book based flicks all the time--I cheer Urban's statements!
Dredd is scheduled for release on September 21, 2012.
