RIP Ciliff Robertson (1923 – 2011)

Veteran actor Oscar winner Cliff Robertson who played Uncle Ben in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, and its 2 sequels has died just one day after his 88th birthday.


His daughter Stephanie Saunders released the following in a statement. “My father was a loving father, devoted friend, dedicated professional and honorable man.”

The star died of natural causes in Stony Brook, New York. Robertson won an Academy Award in 1968 for his portrayal of a mentally disabled man in Charly. There were memorable turns in the original Gidget, Three Days of the Condor, Obsession My Six Loves, Sunday in New York, The Best Man, The Devil's Brigade, Autumn Leaves. Obsession and Star 80.

TV series like The Untouchables a couple of segments of The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits also benefited from his talents

The actor was even endorsed by President John F. Kennedy to play him as a Lt. in the biopic Pt 109.
