Loosely based on the music group The Supremes, Sparkle follows three sisters that form a successful singing group and then must deal with the fallout of fame and drugs.
Singer Jordin Sparks will play the title character who is the most talented member of this powerful girl group while Whitney Houston is playing her indifferent mother.
Luke will play Stix Warren, a songwriter and aspiring manager who becomes the love interest to Sparkle
Mike Epps is going to play a stand-up comedian who gets one of the three sisters hooked on drugs.
Salim Akil will direct from a script he wrote with his wife, Mara Brock Akil.
Houston will executive produce with shooting likely to kick off sometime in 2013.
