The story follows a nanotechnology pioneer who transfers his injured son's consciousness into nanobots that take his physical form.
The film was scheduled to begin production in March but will now be pushed back to perform script revisions that need to be done.
Emmerich and Harald Kloser wrote the screenplay Futurist and author Ray Kurzweil, one of the world's leading experts in the field the film explores, has been enlisted to help. His book "The Singularity is Near" speculates that the line between humans, machines, reality and virtual reality will grow increasingly blurred in the future.
Larry J. Franco and Koser are producing the film. No casting has been finalized yet.
