Piranha 3Dd Gets A Theatrical Release

The British Video Association got the ball rolling a few days ago when their website indicated that the blood boobs and fish sequel "Piranha 3Dd" was going straight to video in the UK in mid-March.

This led to questions over whether the film's entire theatrical plans had been scrubbed.

The folks at Bloody Disgusting said they had spoken with people involved with the film who told 'em a Spring U.S. theatrical release is still on target Now whether the film will get a theatrical U.K. release at all remains a question, that said--the film being on disc anywhere by March seems remote

The pics co-writer Patrick Melton talked with Daily Dead about both the initial delay of the film from this past November to the Spring and confirmed that a theatrical debut.

To clarify, the Thanksgiving release was always overly optimistic. Marcus Dunstan and I started writing the script around Thanksgiving a year prior…we initially scouted Louisiana and realized that we wouldn’t be able to shoot until late March because of the cold weather. Now, with the additional FX worked needed to create/enhance the piranhas, the Thanksgiving release was out the window" he says.

He adds that "About a month ago, it was tested and scored very well. So well the studio gave us more money to enhance the FX. Soon, it’ll be done and ready for a theatrical release. Because of the ‘Spring Break vibe’ in the film, spring was the obvious time to open it. And because Dimension Films financed the movie and owns the movie, they call the shots on when it’s released worldwide. So, that’s the long and short of it. All good. In theaters this spring. See you then.

In the pic the killer fish have made their way into 'The Big Wet Water Park' where carnage ensues and the water slides will run red with blood.

John Gulager ("Feast") called action

Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, David Koechner, Meagan Tandy, Paul James Jordan, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Hector Jimenez, Adrian Martinez,Clu Gulager Katrina Bowden David Hasselhoff and Gary Busey join "Piranha 3-D" survivors Christopher Lloyd, Ving Rhames and Paul Scheer as potential fish food in the film

The sequel is produced by Mark Canton, Marc Toberoff and Joel Soisson.

Hoping this will be as much fun as the first flick is....
