Tatum: No Full Frontal Nudity In Magic Mike

Chatting with Collider about Steven Soderbergh’s male stripper flick Magic Mike actor Channing Tatum confirms that no one in the film will go full frontal...

The story is inspired by Tatum’s pre-Hollywood days as a male dancer--The biopic follows a newcomer to the world of exotic dancing (Alex Pettyfer) who is tempted by an older woman (Demi Moore) as well as bond with a mentor to the younger stripper--The titular Magic Mike (Tatum)

Hard R. It’s a very hard R. Not NC-17, we don’t want it to go that far. You’ve got a bunch of naked guys. It won’t be full frontal, it’s just thongs or whatever you want to call them and underwear

He adds that the tone will be comedic - "It’s a fun movie; we wrote it to be fun. We actually wrote it very comedically and in knowing Soderbergh’s style, he doesn’t punch in for close-ups and he doesn’t shoot in a very classic comedic way, so I think, overall, it will make it fun. The stuff that is happening is kind of outlandish, the characters at times will be bizarre."

Co star Matt Bomer also talked to Collider about the film saying that he worked out and gained about 15 pounds for his role. However because of some of the other huge guys involved, he focused on having a swimmer's build rather than getting big.

He says of the story "It’s actually a really intricate plot, it’s very of a Saturday Night Fever /Boogie Nights ilk

He adds that his role is that of a "fellow dancer who’s a big part of bringing The Kid a little deeper into what it means to be in that world of stripping."

Matthew McConaughey plays Dallas, a former stripper who now owns the Xquisite club where Mike works. Cody Horn will play Pettyfer’s sister in the film who has a romance with Tatum’s character. Riley Keough plays Pettyfer's girlfriend. Joe Manganiello Betsy Brandt Mircea Monroe and professional wrestler Kevin Nash William Levy and Gabriel Iglesias co-star.

Reid Carolin wrote the screenplay. The idea of Magic Mike came about when Soderbergh and Tatum were working together on the January 20th espionage drama-actioner Haywire.

Tatum, Nick Wechsler, Gregory Jacobs and Carolin produced the pic.
