Trek 2: Brit Invasion

Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch has joined the as yet Untitled Star Trek Sequel in a major role says TrekMovie,


There are no details on the role but the site speculates that it is possible that Cumberbatch could have nabbed the villain role after Benicio del Toro dropped out, but this has not been confirmed.


Meantime Variety reports that Noel Clarke, best known for a recurring role in another popular sci-fi franchise Doctor Who, has joined the cast. Again specifics are unknown but the article says that Clarke will be playing "a family man with a wife and young daughter."

Fellow Brit Alice Eve has been in talks for a major role as has former "Robocop" star Peter Weller.

Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin and John Cho are all returning to the Final Frontier in their respective roles

Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof wrote the script for director J.J. Abrams

The sequel will be produced by Abrams, Kurtzman, Orci, Lindelof, Bryan Burk, and David Ellison.

The sequel will open on May 17th 2013 and is being shot in 3-D. Production stars January 15th
