Trio "Laughs" For Améris

Canadian actor Marc-André Grondin Gerard Depardieu and Emmanuelle Seigner have joined the cast of the period adaptation "L'homme qui rit" (The Man Who Laughs), says The Hollywood Reporter.

An adaptation of Victor Hugo's novel--The story follows a young man whose mutilated face makes him appear to be constantly laughing. He's later revealed to be a son of a baron who was kidnapped at the age of two, sold and disfigured, and is now heir to a vast fortune.

Jean-Pierre Améris adapted the script with Guillaume Laurant and will direct.

Thomas Anargyros and Edouard de Vésinne are producing the film.

Production starts in Prague and France next week.
