Matt Lieberman who wrote the forthcoming Short Circuit remake concieved the story which centers on a man abducted by aliens, taken to their planet and turned into a family pet.
Tim Dowling performed a recent re-write on the script but with Hess' involvement that script is expected to get further tweaks.
David Silverman had been attached to direct the film at one point.
Scott Rudin, Craig Perry and Sheila Hanahan Taylor are producing the film
