Guillermo Del Toro and "Fantastic Mr. Fox" animation director Mark Gustafson are teaming to co-direct a 3-D stop-motion animated version of Pinocchio reports Variety.
The Matthew Robbins penned screenplay which sees author Carlo Collodi's famous puppet going on a series of adventures and proving himself to be as indestructible as the love he has for his father. The story will be set in Italy between World War I and World War II , a time "when everyone was behaving like a puppet, except for puppets" says Del Toro.
del Toro was originally only due to produce the film but has come around to co-directing due to the project's scale and complexity.
A year-long shoot aims to kick off next Summer.
