1984 Remake Gets A Writer

Noah Oppenheim has been hired to write the new film adaptation of author George Orwell's dystopian literary classic"1984" says Deadline.

Set in a world of perpetual war, pervasive government surveillance, and incessant public mind control, the story centers on Winston Smith who works for the Ministry of Truth which is responsible for propaganda and historical revisionism. Because of the childhood trauma of the destruction of his family — the disappearances of his parents and sister — Winston Smith secretly hates the ruling Party, and dreams of rebellion against them and their deified Party leader - Big Brother.

Almost since its first publication in 1948 the novel has had major influences in the artistic, cultural and even political arenas over the past few decades with concepts from it becoming synonymous with denoting totalitarian authority.

The book has been adapted for the screen several times before - most notably in the year 1984 in a film written /directed by Michael Radford and starring John Hurt and Richard Burton.

Ron Howard Brian Grazer and Julie Yorn will produce the pic.

No director is attached yet.

Oppenheim is also writing the Snabba Cash Remake" and a "WarGames" redux.
