Bourne Blinks Over TDKR & Recall Redux

Universal Pictures has announced that they've delayed the release of Tony Gilroy's action reboot "The Bourne Legacy" by a week - from August 3rd to August 10th.

In an official explanation via Deadline, the studio made the decision because of one very specific reason - Christopher Nolan's bat-capper "The Dark Knight Rises.

"Just as The Avengers demonstrated marketplace sustainability that well outpaced traditional patterns earlier this summer, the industry expects a similar trajectory for The Dark Knight Rises. Moving one week further from its release will give The Bourne Legacy an even greater opportunity to maximize its opening box office potential.Moving to August 10 will also allow us to extend valuable promotion for the film across all NBC Universal platforms during the Olympics, which will dominate television and digital audiences beginning July 27. We are excited about this new chapter in our Bourne franchise and confident that August 10 is the right date for our film and for our industry as a whole"

In this new film we see Jeremy Renner taking over for departing series star Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne playing Aaron Cross.

Rachel Weisz also stars as the female lead while Edward Norton is set to play the villain Oscar Isaac plays a brainwashed assassin named 'Number 3' While Joan Allen and Albert Finney have signed on to reprise their roles from the original Bourne films. And Stacy Keach has joined the cast of the film as a new as yet unknown character.

Frank Marshall, Jeffrey M. Weiner and Ben Smith produce the new Bourne.

Six days of reshoots recently took place in Vancouver with stunt coordinator Dan Bradley handling "two days of pickus" which the studio insists were for "one shot that we needed to get. It was a beat. It was nothing."

The test screenings for the pic are said to have gone very well.

Another reason for the delay is that the film opens the same day as the remake of "Total Recall", which is slowly gaining momentum as a potential box-office performer.
