Robert Schwentke helmed the original Red starring Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich, Brian Cox, Karl Urban Mary-Louise Parker and Morgan Freeman--following over-the-hill special ops agents forced out of retirement.
The story has Willis and his retired spy friends searching for a weapon of mass destruction. First though, they must break into an insane asylum to retrieve the man (Anthony Hopkins) who created the weapon.
Catherine Zeta-Jones and Byung-Hun Lee also star.
Jon and Erich Hoeber are writng the screenplay to the follow-up for new director Dean Parisot. The franchise is based on Warren Ellis' three-issue comic book series.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian will produce the pic.
An August 2nd 2013 release has been set.
