Ang Lee Takes "Cleopatra"?

David Fincher will no longer helm the "Cleopatra" biopic says The Hollywood Reporter.

Angelina Jolie is sill attached to play the tragic Egyptian Queen in this story which depicts her as a master strategist in politics and war.

The project has been in development since 2006 and will be based on Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer Stacy Schiff 's book, "Cleopatra: A Life" Eric Roth, writer of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was the latest to draft a script.

While there is no official offer yet-"Brokeback Mountain" helmer Ang Lee is being courted  for the gig. Lee tops a wish list of replacements created by both the studio and producer Scott Rudin.


Fincher is just the latest name to have once been linked to the project and subsequently dropped out. Other names included James Cameron and Paul Greengrass.
