Evil Dead Remake Will Be Bloody Good

While on the stump for August 31st's "The Possession", producer Sam Raimi says the upcoming remake of "The Evil Dead" will be as bloody if not more so than the original.

Raimi tells Collider that "It’s really bloody. It’s so bloody, it will make your head spin. I’ve seen almost all the dailies and they’re really going for it. It’s gonna be grisly and intense and non-stop. Definitely R [rated]. Maybe worse."

Fede Alvarez directs the pic and like the 1981classic, the story centers on five friends who journey up to a remote cabin where they discover the Book of the Dead and unwittingly unleash demonic forces.

Raimi admits there are "a lot of ways to improve" the original 'Dead' and the remake has been a blast- "It has turned out to be a tremendous amount of fun because it’s like an old melody that you write and you’ve brought in this really great, cool, young, hip jazz musician, and he’s riffing on it and showing you places it could go that you never dreamed. It’s very exciting for me."

Jane Levy plays the lead female role of Mia who is ecovering from a recent overdose, and is in a particularly vulnerable place. Shiloh Fernandez nabbed the male lead. While Lou Taylor Pucci ("Thumbsucker") will play an academic whose intellectual curiosity gets them into trouble. Jessica Lucas will play Mia's best pal who is also a nurse. Elizabeth Blackmore is playing the fiancĂ©e of Fernandez's character and is new to the group.

Alvarez, Rodolfo Sayagues, and Diablo Cody worked on the script.

This new version will NOT feature a character called Ash, the lead role played by Bruce Campbell in the original. Raimi, Rob Tapert and Campbell will produce.

The film is set for an April 12th 2013 release.

Raimi also says David Lindsay-Abaire is due to deliver a new draft for the remake of the 1982 supernatural horror classic "Poltergeist" in early October.
