The move has ditched the film's awards chances but it does give the film wider visibility.
While attending a Samsung launch party this week, Luhrmann told Vulture: "I will tell you this, I’m just very nourished by just working on it. I’m just thrilled. Right now I’m working on music, you can imagine how involved I am in the music alone."
However The Herald Sun says the real reason is a bit more serious than that - a budget shortfall and reshoots. A source claims Warner Bros turned down the director's request for more money to finish the film which is already overdue and slightly over-budget at $130 million. The delay buys Luhrmann time to find more prospective investors, while the director is reportedly said to have already recalled members of the cast for reshoots to take place shortly.
Luhrmann is an infamous perfectionist to the point that he didn't deliver a final copy of his last movie "Australia" to 20th Century Fox until the absolute last second.
Based on the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel Leo DiCaprio stars as the wealthy and mysterious Jay Gatsby who still pines for his former flame Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan).
