Safe House Follow-Up Planned

Universal Pictures and Bluegrass Films are moving ahead with a sequel to this year's thriller "Safe House" says Heat Vision.

The Daniel Espinosa-directed original followed a bored young Central Intelligence Agency analyst(Ryan Reynolds) overseeing a South African safe house who is thrust into a life-and-death situation when he has to keep a rogue agent (Denzel Washington) safe.

David Guggenheim, who penned the first film, is returning to write the as-yet-untitled follow-up and it's uknown whether this film will be a prequel or a sequel.

Scott Stuber is returning as producer, no word if Espinosa will be back or not.

The $85 million-budgeted film was one of the few US hits this past Spring with a $126 million in tix sales. Internationally it didn't do as well with just $76 million made outside our boarders.
