31 Days Of Horror Day 24: Cube

Director Jason Christopher turns into a real square to talk about 1997's sci-fi horror movie Cube as this special month long event celebrating horror feels trapped!

I would have eventually stumbled across this movie at some point but thanks to my silly friend Chuck, I saw it when I was like sixteen or fourteen, maybe younger, I really forget. This movie is awesome! It’s like one long Twilight Zone episode in a weird way.

Six ordinary strangers awaken to find themselves in a seemingly endless maze of interlocking cubical chambers armed with lethal booby traps. Without food or water, they have only a few days to live. None of them knows how or why they’ve been imprisoned. Soon they discover that each of them possesses a skill that could help them escape. As they work together to extricate themselves from their claustrophobic cell, one thing becomes painfully clear – unless they learn to cooperate to solve the problem of this deadly trap, none of them have very long to live.

This movie has a lot of twists and turns and a ton of surprises. At 90 minutes the movie has a quick pace.

There are no big stars in this movie but I always loved Nicole de Boer’s character, maybe even her too, ha!

There’s a ton of pretty fun loving kills in this movie that’ll keep you glued. The mystery throughout this movie keeps you on the edge of  your seat the whole time. Throughout this movie all of the characters wind up becoming real monsters-personality wise.

Vincenzo Natali went on to other projects, most notable - Splice. Not really sure why he didn’t return to the chair for the movies sequels. I don’t really blame him at the same time.

The movie did spawn a second and third one. I didn’t care much for the Cube 2: Hypercube but did enjoy Cube Zero, the prequel.

I think this movie is on Netflix or something, definitely worth checking out and very enjoyable. It’s more Sci-Fi than horror in all honesty but definitely a bloody fun time.

7 days till Halloween.
