In 1990 John Hughes writes another great family flick. I swear Pixar’s writing staff has to be obsessed with John Hughes. Both parties write for the kids but also include jokes for the adults!
The director was yet another fantastic family film guy, Chris Columbus--Not the explorer who found America but who has made plenty of films that you have seen, classics at that!
In Home Alone, the whole family is in town to take a plane and go to France for Christmas. Kevin McCallister wishes for his parents were away for Christmas after a huge dinner argument over cheese pizza. It sounds cheesy (no pun intended) but the whole scene is played out very funny. The next morning Kevin wakes up to find his parents vanished. His wish has come true. As the parents come to realize that since they were in such a rush to get to the airport, they completely left their kid behind! Kevin is now home alone and two of the biggest idiot burglars are on the loose. Kevin now must fend for himself and save his house.
Both Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern play amazing idiot burglars. They’re hilarious and pretty much make the film ten times better than it already is! I was supposed to catch this flick at a local cinema by me but apparently they cancelled all of their holiday movies. I like to see movies that I was never able to catch at the movies, when they were originally out. I would have completely enjoyed seeing this movie on the big screen!
The movie became a hit and four sequels were produced. Home Alone 2 Lost in New York is probably the only one worth seeing. The third one was entertaining but I wouldn’t brag about it. I saw parts of the fourth one and now there’s a fifth one that was a family TV movie. I watched that the other day and shut it off within twenty minutes. Not even Malcolm McDowell could save that one!
If you haven’t seen this movie, please do. It’s a great family flick that is also great for any adult audience. I’m sure you’ll be reciting Marv and Harry lines the next day!
