Paramount has released a new image from J.J. Abrams’ "Star Trek Into Darkness" sequel...
In the new film the Enterprise crew will face off with Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch's baddie who might just be a version of Khan Noonien Singh in the film. Or is it perhaps Gary Mitchell instead?
The caption lists Cumby's Character as John Harrison--Who? I would bet this is either a ruse or a alias that he uses to hide his true identity from Starfleet...Pretty crafty if you ask me...no matter what the truth is.
Abrams hosted a screening of 9 minutes from the film, that will be in front of IMAX copies of "The Hobbit: An Expected Journey" starting December 14th for the press: All attendees were quick to say that the peek does not reveal the big bad's identity.
AICN, HitFix, TrekMovie, Latino-Review, Collider, MovieLine, Cinema Blend, ScreenRant, L.A. Times and Badass Digest were at the event and each offer their own impressions of what they saw.
Spoilery deets will be released after the peek hits screens
Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin John Cho and Bruce Greenwood have all returned to the Final Frontier in their respective roles as Kirk Spock Uhura Dr. McCoy Scotty Chekov Sulu and Admiral Pike.
The Supporting Cast Includes Nazneen Contractor who will play the wife of Noel Clarke’s family man character Alice Eve has a major role as does former "Robocop" star Peter Weller and actor/stuntman Joseph Gatt. Original "A Nightmare on Elm Street" star Heather Langenkamp has a small part in the film as well.
Leonard Nimoy's return as Spock Prime following his larger cameo from "Star Trek" '09 had been walked back yet not fully denied...Klingons might be making an appearance in the Star Trek sequel. The adversaries were left on the cutting room of the last pic.
Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof wrote the script for director Abrams.
The sequel will be produced by Abrams, Kurtzman, Orci, Lindelof, Bryan Burk, and David Ellison.
The film will be released May 17, 2013 in 3D and IMAX.
There's far too much speculation over this one. Has it occurred to anyone that it might be an original villain?
ReplyDeleteAnd if you pay attention, Cumberbatch's hair is much shorter in this still than it is in certain scenes from the trailer, clearly pointing to a significant time lapse in the narrative. Plus he's wearing a starfleet uniform. Black is the cadet uniform colour Kirk wears in the first movie.
I predict it'll be an original character - a starfleet officer and friend of Kirk who gains immense power and gets exiled by the federation, then returns post-prologue to wreak havoc. It'll certainly mirror aspects of Mitchell and Khan, but doesn't have to be them.

ReplyDeletePart of the problem is that writers Orci and Kurtsman got the ball rolling early on by stating that the bad guy was indeed from TOS. Of course fans are gonna speculate. Add to that Abrams' super secret ways and this is what happens--Personally I would feel better if it were a "new" bad guy.
