300: Rise of an Empire Poster Peek

Warner Bros has released the first one sheet poster for the prequel/sequel 300: Rise of an Empire by way of writer-producer Zack Snyder's Twitter feed.

Zack Snyder and Kurt Johnstad's script is based on the graphic-novel sequel by Frank Miller.

Sullivan Stapleton has won the lead role as Themosticles--the general of the Greek army. Eva Green co-stars in the role of Artemisia, the ruthless, gold-covered goddess who persuades king-turned-god Xerxes to amass his army and helps lead the charge against the Greek forces. Rodrigo Santoro is set to play Xerxes again. The UK version of "Skins" and "Eden Lake" star Jack O'Connell will play Calisto, a teen whose desire to become the heroic man/soldier his father was leads the 16-year-old to become a leader of a small band of soldiers. Aussie actor Callan Mulvey also stars.

The giant battle at the center of the film is said to be happening simultaneously with the events of the original "300."

Noam Murro called action.

The first footage from the pic premiered at CinemaCon and is said to be in keeping with the original film.

"300: Rise of an Empire" opens August 2nd.
