The story is based on Chohel Kamayashi's sci-fi novel series which is set in the early 21st Century, three decades after an alien force known as Jam invaded Earth through a portal over Antarcica. The humans form an elite combat force to take out the alien threat on their home planet.

Cruise stars in director Joseph Kosinski's sci-fi film Oblivion which opens Friday.
