Joss Whedon Talks "Avengers 2" & How "S.H.I.E.L.D" TV Fits In

When talking to ET Online, writer/director Joss Whedon says he had an idea in his head for "The Avengers 2", before he even started work on "The Avengers".

"I didn't think I was going to do the second one, but I had an idea for it, before I figured out the first one. I've seen plenty of movies that are the first part of a trilogy that never happened, and it's terrible. You don't save anything for the trip back. Having said that, though, I did sort of know, if they were going to come back, I know what's going to happen."

Whedon adds that he's in contact with Marvel suit Kevin Feige on a regular basis, and has info and updates on all the upcoming Marvel Phase Two movies.

"I'm really excited. I've gotten to see everything. I've been behind the curtain on all this stuff, and  Kevin Feige has a really clear vision, and it runs through all these movies. They really are what the next story should be. I'm actually consulting for Marvel in general, and some of that is protecting myself, but most of it is trying to make sure everything is as good as it can be."

The script is said to be completed , though re-writes and tweaking will happen for many months.

Production is confirmed to start in February of next year in order to the film's May 2015 release.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Total Film, Whedon was asked just how the upcoming ABC TV series "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.." fits into the larger Marvel movie cannon:

"The S.H.I.E.L.D. show fits into the mythology of The Avengers remarkably well and they both complement each other. So it just seemed like a no-brainer – although it has required a lot of my brain to get it right. We have just finished shooting [the pilot] and I am excited. I think Marvel fans will appreciate what we have done."
