Lin Leaves "Fast And Furious" Films Behind

After helming the third through sixth entries, director Justin Lin has left the Fast and the Furious film franchise says THR

The director informed the Universal Pictures late Wednesday that he will not be returning to do the seventh film.

Lin's departure is said to be due to timing since the studio has put the film on an accelerated timetable in order to have it ready for summer 2014.

The studio is now searching for another director, with a decision expected as early as next week.

Lin's final film in the franchise, "Fast & Furious 6" is due to hit theaters on May 24.
