Seyfried will play con artist Esther Reed, who became the target of a nationwide manhunt after she uses a fake ID and made her way into Columbia University.
The film is based on the Sabrina Rubin Erdely 2009 Rolling Stone article.
Chris Shafer and Paul Vicknair ("A Many Splintered Thing") are writing the adapted screenplay.
McG, Michael Nardelli and Mary Viola are producing. Shooting kicks off later this year.
