The story centers on a a Southern California surfer (Hemsworth) who becomes a fighter pilot. Following a messy combat mission, he is recruited to be part of an elite team to test a new generation of aircraft just as an international conflict begins.
Christian Gudegast (A Man Apart) wrote the script.
The film is being produced by Alexandra Milchan, Scott Lambert, Guymon Casady and Ryan Kavanaugh.
Relativity Media is due to release the espionage thriller Paranoia, which also stars Hemsworth, on Aug. 16.
