Vitti Wrangles "Angry Birds" Script

Heat Vision reports that veteran comedy writer Jon Vitti ("The Simpsons," "The Larry Sanders Show") has been hired to pen the script for the 3-D animated film based on the "Angry Birds" app created by Rovio Entertainment Ltd. The project was officially announced last week.

In the game, players use a slingshot to help a flock of animated birds destroy a group of evil pigs who stole their eggs. Over one billion downloads of the game have taken place since its launch in late 2009. The game remains the number one most downloaded app of all time.

John Cohen ("Despicable Me," "Alvin and the Chipmunks") will produce.

"Star Wars: The Clone Wars" executive producer Catherine Winder has also joined the team.

The pic has scheduled a July 1st 2016 release date.
