The often told on screen tale comes from author Carlo Collodi's famous puppet stories going on a series of adventures and proving himself to be as indestructible as the love he has for his father.
At last report, Robert Downey Jr. was attached to play Geppetto in the film, while Ben Stiller was circling the project as a potential directorial vehicle.
Bleeding Cool. posts that the plan at the moment is for Downey Jr. to play both Geppetto and Pinocchio in the movie. It also seems as if Pinocchio will be rendered using a voice or motion capture . Geppetto will be younger in the story so that RDJ won't require any aging makeup.
"Kick-Ass" and "X-Men: First Class" co-writer Jane Goldman and "Pushing Daisies" creator Bryan Fuller have worked on the script. At one time Jack Nicholson was being sought to play the part of Geppetto's father, but no were made. Tim Burton was set to direct at some point.
