This Is The End writer/directors Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen recently revealed to IGN that they were offered the chance to take on the big-budget video game series film adaptation "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune".
The pair said that video game manufacturer Naughty Dog approached them on more than one occasion.
"They’re constantly asking me and Evan to make the Uncharted movie" says Rogen.
Goldberg added that the offers have come in for the past four years. While they love the games, the pair kept turning it down because they couldn't get a handle on how to approach the material.
Based on the first game in in the series, the story charts the journey of Nathan Drake, supposed descendant of the explorer Francis Drake, as he seeks the lost treasure of El Dorado with the help of journalist Elena Fisher and mentor Victor "Sully" Sullivan.
Goldberg says: "It’s just going to be Indiana Jones. If we can figure out a way to make it not Indiana Jones, it’d be awesome."
The likes of David O. Russell and more recently Neil Burger ("Limitless") were attached to direct, but that is no longer the case. Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer were writing the pic for O Russell At last report "National Treasure" duo Marianne Wibberley and Cormac Wibberley have been hired to rewrite the script for the picture. The studio was said to be waiting until the Wibberleys finish their script before settling on a new director.
Avi Arad, Ari Arad, Charles Roven and Alex Gartner remain attached to produce.
Meantime Goldberg says a few ideas are being tossed around for a sequel to "End"
