Variety reports that
Ted Melfi ("
St. Vincent de Van Nuys") is in talks to direct the remake of
Martin Brest's
1979 caper comedy
Going in Style at
New Line Cinema.
George Burns,
Art Carney and
Lee Strasberg starred in the original as seniors who, tired of the monotonous life of feeding pigeons and waiting for social security, decide to rob a bank.
Melfi had originally written the adapted script but couldn't direct due to scheduling concerns. The studio began talks with
Don Scardino to call action, but a deal couldn't be reached. Melfi has the time now to take over.
Donald De Line is serving as the film's producer.
