Trek 3: Abrams On Wyatt Talk & Bad Robot Feels The Force

Star Trek Into Darkness turned "Star Wars: Episode VII" director J.J. Abrams was asked by Hitfix: about rumors that "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" director Rupert Wyatt would take over the job of director on Star Trek 3:

"He's incredibly talented and we'd be lucky to have someone as talented as Rupert. But there are things we're focusing on right now before the director, which is just sort of the fundamentals of where the story is gonna go."

G.I. Joe: Retaliation" director Jon M. Chu was also in the mix to call action but there's nothing official yet.

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci who wrote Star Trek" '09 together and "Darkness" with Damon Lindelof are in talks to pen the Trek III screenplay. Star Trek" '09 together and "Star Trek Into Darkness" with Damon Lindelof. Lindelof will not be returning for the third film.

For his part Abrams will still be involved as a producer, but refused to give away any early story details:

"I plan to be involved in the story, and producing the film. I feel very blessed to be involved at all. This film ends with the beginning of the five-year mission, so we would be following that. It’s too early to be discussing details, but there are some really exciting ideas about what comes next."

Paramount is targeting a 2016 release for the film to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the "Star Trek" franchise.

Meanwhile THR reported yesterday that Abrams is converting some space at the Bad Robot offices in Santa Monica into a post-production facility ahead of filming on "Episode VII".

The plan includes the construction of a green room, sound studio and other post-production needs

The three-story building already boasts editing bays, prop workshop, screening room and personal offices.

Production is reportedly set to start on Tuesday January 21st 2014 in London.
