Cap 2: Anthony Mackie Talks Falcon

Anthony Mackie is poised to play Harlem crime fighter Falcon in the sequel "Captain America: The Winter Soldier".

The character is one of mainstream comics' first black superheroes. Falcon, aka. Sam Wilson, can telepathically talk to birds and has a suit that allows him to fly and enhances his strength. in the film.

Recently the actor talked about his character with MTV News--dismissing the notion that the character is a sidekick for Cap:

"It's interesting because a lot of people equate it to Batman and Robin, but the reality of it is, it's more of a working relationship, a respect relationship as opposed to a leader and follower.

The three of us [Captain America, Falcon, and Black Widow played by Scarlett Johansson] work really well together and we support each other. All of us are really different in our abilities and powers, so when we come together we make an awesome tandem."

Mackie joked that he was told he would be the second lead in the movie, in actuality he gets injured and sits out some of it:

"They sold me that I was the second lead in the movie, so there's a point where Cap gets hurt, and [I] do everything for Cap. And I get the script, and... that's not true. I get hurt, not Cap!"

The story follows the acclaimed comic storyline The Winter Soldier by author Ed Brubaker, who along with artist Steve Epting, in which Captain America's (Chris Evans) sidekick Bucky (Sebastian Stan) is resurrected as a brainwashed super-assassin known as the Winter Solider. The tale also follows that Peggy's (played by Hayley Atwell in Captain America: The First Avenger) niece Sharon (Revenge star Emily VanCamp) meets Cap.
