Endless Love Redux Trailer #1: "I'm Scared..."

The first theatrical trailer for the remake of the 1981 romance drama Endless Love has dropped.

Based on author Scott Spencer's 1979 novel, the story follows two teenagers (Alex Pettyfer
and Gabriella Wilde) and their all-consuming love for each other. Things take a turn when the boy turns obsessive and concocts a plan to ingratiate himself to the girl’s family by setting her house on fire.

Wilde was among the quartet of actress that tested for the part in early February. Others who tried out for the starring roles included Brenton Thwaites, Sarah Bolger Olivia Cooke and Sophie Lowe. All of the girls tested opposite up-and-coming Australian actor Thwaites. In the end, the studio suits decided to go in a different direction for the male lead and narrowed its search on the female side to Lowe and Wilde.

Bruce Greenwood, Robert Patrick, Joely Richardson, Rhys Wakefield, Dayo Okeniyi, and Emma Rigby also star.

Brooke Shields and Martin Hewett starred in the original film as the teens in love.

"Country Strong" helmer Shana Feste rewrote the adapted script originally penned by Josh Safran, and will direct the updated version.

Scott Stuber Pam Abdy Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will produce the film.

"Endless Love" will debut in theaters on Feb. 14, 2014 Valentine's Day.

While I vaguely recall watching the original once when it made its cable debut over 30 years ago--Back then I think the title song as sung by Lionel Richie and the great Diana Ross made more of an impression than the film that inspired it--It has endured...The film did not....

The remake seems to emulate the tone of a Soap Opera but without any crazy plot twist to spice it up,. Everything and everyone seems so over-wrought and heavy handed. If that's what I gleaned from a 2 minute peek, I can just imagine what watching the entire movie will be like. I say this. knowing that, I am not a member of the film's target demo....Somebody better get to work and re-record that song
