What's Going On With Luc Besson's "Lucy"?

The Taipei Film Commission is nixing reports that the sci-fi action thriller "Lucy" will finish production in Taiwan earlier than expected.

A source tells Variety: "The shoot is going very well. Every setup is on schedule, it will complete its full 11 days here." They did confirm the reports of media scuffles but downplayed them saying that the media has sensationalized the incidents.

Luc Besson  ("La Femme Nikita," "The Fifth Element") wrote the script from which he directs that follows a woman (Scarlett Johansson) forced to become a drug mule. When the drug goes into her system, she is transformed into an ass-kicking machine. She can absorb knowledge instantaneously, is able to move objects with her mind and can't feel pain. She sets out to rescue a professor (Morgan Freeman).

A EuropaCorp spokes-suit added: "The filming of 'Lucy' in Tapei is going forward as planned and will wrap next Monday." Shooting is expected to take place at locations including the Taipei 101 tower, the Longshan Temple and a hospital.

The recent incidents involving the media are said to be an anomaly as Taiwan has earned a reputation as a safe place for film industry production.  Ang Lee's "Life of Pi" shot there without incident, and Martin Scorsese's "Silence" is due to begin filming there in June

Want China Times adds that thousands of furious members of the public have taken to the Net condemn the behavior of the very competitive paparazzi for hounding Besson and his cast and crew.
