Bryan Singer Offers "X-Men: Apocalypse" Details

Bryan Singer's "X-Men : Days of Future Past" may be the most anticipated film of Summer 2014 according a poll conducted on Rotten Tomatoes but the director is not resting on his laurels--He's already looking forward to the next installment of the film series--"X-Men: Apocalypse".

Singer tells Heat Vision that the next film will continue to push the larger story arc towards the present day. "X-Men: First Class" was set in the early 1960s, 'Future Past' is partly set in the early 1970s, and 'Apocalypse' will be set in the 1980s.

He adds that 'Apocalypse' will "offer more of the mass destruction that X-Men films, to date, have not relied upon. There's definitely now a character and a story that allow room for that kind of spectacle."

He says 'Apocalypse' deals with the notion of ancient mutants, and will "introduce familiar characters in a younger time."

Singer hopes to continue the series beyond 'Apocalypse' saying that these prequels "give me a chance to explore ideas I came up with more than a decade ago."

X2: X-Men United" and "Superman Returns" screenwriters Mike Dougherty and Dan Harris as well as Simon Kinberg are writing the script for "Apocalypse" .

The younger actors introduced in "First Class" James McAvoy (Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Magneto) Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), and Nicholas Hoult (Beast). Lucas Till (Alex “Havoc” Summers), etc. are contracted for three films and are locked in to return.

Because the film is a direct sequel to "Days of Future Past" it will focus strictly on the younger cast as they take on the comic's greatest villain Apocalypse.

The film will hit theaters on May 27, 2016 opposite Alice in Wonderland 2
