Jaden Smith & Liev Schreiber Flock To "The Good Lord Bird"

Jaden Smith and Liev Schreiber will star in an adaptation of author James McBride's slightly satirical, Huckleberry Finn-esqu novel "The Good Lord Bird" says Deadline.

The story follows a young slave named Henry "Onion" Shackleford (Smith) who skips town with abolitionist John Brown (Schreiber) who believes Henry is actually a girl. The pair, and his crew of freedom fighters, travel the nation meeting historical figures along the way to the Harper's Ferry raid which set the stage for the Civil War.

McBride, Schreiber and  Brian Taylor will produce.
