"Peeps" Get Their Own Movie (Ugh!!)

Deadline says that filmmaker Adam Rifkin ("Detroit Rock City") has purchased the film and TV rights to the popular chicken and bunny-shaped candy Peeps. Plans are to turn the property into a new animated franchise.

Rifkin's wants to make a family epic in the same vein as "The Lego Movie" and set the night before a Peeps diorama contest. A single Peep goes astray and must venture through a number of different adventure-themed dioramas before judging begins.

Rifkin, who penned such family films as "Zoom" and "Small Soldiers" will begin work on the script as soon he settles on certain story points.

Brent Tinter and Brian E. Rochlin will produce the pic
