A few weeks ago director Richard Donner told the world that The Goonies 2 was moving forward.
Today, speaking with TMZ, Donner revealed that not only is producer Steven Spielberg returning for the film, he is responsible for sequel's story (just as he did for the classic 1985 first film).
Donner told the site: "Hopefully we're going to get this done, period. Spielberg came up with the idea of doing a sequel after 30 years. You don't do it without him, and he came up with another storyline and he's right on."
Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Martha Plimpton, Jonathan Ke Quan, Kerri Green, Jeff Cohen, Robert Davi and Joe Pantoliano
starred in the original film written by
Chris Columbus about a group of kids who set out on an adventure
in search of pirate treasure that could save their homes from
foreclosure.
Two of the original cast members, Anne Ramsey (Mama Fratelli) and John Matuszak (Sloth) have passed away. Brolin, Astin, Plimpton,
Davi and Pantoliano are all still busy acting.
Green occasionally acts and preferring to produce films. Cohen is an entertainment lawyer, and Ke Quan is a stunt choreographer.
How many of the original cast members will return is unknown but all of them have expressed an interest in returning. No word yet if Columbus will be back.
