Tomas Alfredson Rebuilds "The Snowman"

Variety reports that Tomas Alfredson ("Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy," "Let the Right One In") is set to take over directing duties on the film adaptation of author Jo Nesbø's book The Snowman.

The story follows Norwegian gumshoe Harry Hole, an "anti-authoritarian, anti-sobriety" cop, as he solves gruesome and complex murders. In "Snowman," the seventh book in Nesbo's franchise, a son discovers his mother's pink scarf around the neck of a scary-looking snowman. Hole realizes this is no Christmas jingle; she is the latest victim of a serial killer.

Matthew Michael Carnahan wrote the initial adapted screenplay. Alfredson will work on a draft of the screenplay with writer Søren Sveistrup.

Alfredson takes over for Martin Scorsese who was circling the project at one point.
