Sheldon Turner (Up in the Air, X-Men: First Class) has been hired
to take over the script for the film adaptation of Ubisoft's video game "Splinter Cell" says Deadline.
The series follows a covert operative and have sold
twenty-three million units over the years. The film's story centers on
Sam Fisher, a highly-trained operative in a secretive unit known as
Echelon.
Tom Hardy remains attached to star in the film.
Eric Warren Singer ("American Hustle") penned the previous draft.
Doug Liman will call action on the film
Basil Iwanyk and Jean-Julien Baronnet are producing the project.
Ubisoft will be very involved and retain control over how the game is translated into a film.
The movie is eyeing an
August production start date for a 2015 release.
The film has been in the works for nearly as decade with Peter Berg previously attached to direct.
The project marks a reunion of Turner, Liman and Hardy. All three are still attached to a George Mallory biopic "The Summit" aka Everest but that project is on hold and probably won't film until
next year.
