Who Wants To See A "Purge" Movie Once A Year?

2013's micro-budget hit "The Purge" took the industry by surprise. It starred Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey. Produced for just $3 million, the thriller went on to earn more than $87 million worldwide.

The upcoming July 18th sequel The Purge: Anarchy shifts the action to the streets with a young couple caught outside on the one night a year where all crime (including murder) is legal within the United States.

Chatting with Collider, producer Jason Blum says 'Anarchy' is "still very low-budget by Hollywood standards, but by our standards it's a much bigger budget [than the first film]."

Asked if we might see an annual 'Purge' film just like the Saw franchise and Paranormal Activity films, Blum says:

"I hope so. I would love that. There are so many stories you could tell with it."

Finally, Blum says that his micro budget films bank on the first film being self-contained, with the second film pegged to really set the franchise up and thus contain threads for future sequels. That will be the case with "Anarchy" as well
