Mark Wahlberg Sees A "Deepwater Horizon"

Deadline reports that Mark Wahlberg is in talks to star in the true life film "Deepwater Horizon".

The story deals with the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill which became the second largest environmental disaster in U.S. history. The film charts what happened behind-the-scenes in the 48 hours leading up to and the day of the disaster. It also details the acts of heroism that followed in trying to rescue men in the water, stories not known to the general public.


Wahlberg would star as the No. 2 manager on the rig.

Matthew Sand wrote the initial script that is based on The New York Times article. Matthew Michael Carnahan wrote the most recent script draft from which J.C. Chandor ("Margin Call," "All is Lost") will helm. Ric Roman Waugh was poised to talks to direct the film at one point.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing.

Production is eyed for a late spring/early summer start next year.
